项目摘要

本研究は、ポール・ヴァレリー(1871-1945)が19世紀末から『若きパルク』の完成に至る1917年までの「沈黙期」に行った思索とその作品への反映のありようを、当時の思想的文脈をおさえつつ『カイエ』や草稿の読解を行うことで具体的に明らかにすることを目的としていた。1898年に書き始められた散文詩「アガート」が当時の連合論心理学と密接に関わっていたこと、また1904年の「注意論」がカント的な枠組みで書かれていたこと-この2点が研究の開始にあたって明らかになっていたが、平成15-16年度はここから、心的な変動(「アガート」)と認識(「注意論」)のあいだいに広がる「イマジネール」(想像界)の問題を扱い、それがカントの図式論と関わっているとともに、リボーやビネなどが論じた当時の反射-運動理論的な心理学と密接に関連する領域であることを明らかできた。このイマジネールはまた、フロイトとは別の意味での「無意識」の問題であり、この点を、とりわけヴァレリーの「感情」に関する議論とピエール・ジャネの精神医学的言説とを比較しつつ考察した。平16-17年度は、こうしたイマジネールの問題系が『若きパルク』の背景に存在することを具体的に示し、詩篇の読解に新しい解釈を付け加えるとともに、反射-運動理論とヴァレリーの「詩学」の内的連関性を明らかにすることができた。この結果、初期から『若きパルク』にいたるヴァレリーの思索の展開とその作品への反映のありようが跡づけられ、ともすれば思想と作品が別々に論じられてきたヴァレリー研究の動向のなかにあって、この両者をある程度統一的に理解することが可能になったと考えている。
