(1)We developed the theory and the methodology for quantitatively measuring and evaluating stability, robustness and reliability for the general network- structured system. Applying the methodology to the actual network systems such as traffic road network systems in Tokyo and Manila, and water supply systems, in Tokyo and Jakarta, we obtained numerical results for measuring the robustness of those systems including comparative analyses. Our theoretical contribution to the above approach includes defining stable connectivity function for the general network system, developing computational algorithm, and obtaining approximate functions, which are derived from deleting arbitrary number of edges and nodes from the network corresponding to the assumption that arbitrary number of edges and nodes are "broken." Our research results include several articles which appeared in both Japanese and international academic Journals.(2)We developed the railway track maintenance scheduling model, which … More have been already used in several Japanese railway companies. The model is an optimization-type mathematical programming model whose criteria is defined to be the maximum improvement for the track irregularity data, and gives us an annual operating schedule for the MTT system. Our research results include several articles which appeared in both Japanese and international academic journals.(3)We have formulated mathematical model of the Japanese food supply system using mathematical programming techniques in order to obtain an appropriate and desirable food security policy for Japan. The model objective includes strategically improving Japan's self sufficiency ratio (SSR) as much as possible under the various constraints such as import restriction of some basic food items such as wheat, soybean and corn from several major food exporting countries. Our research results include presentations of these model formulations and numerical result in international academic conferences.(4)We developed the mathematical programming model to deal with the electricity liberalization problems.
