项目摘要

平成17-18年度におこなった『見出された時』の生成過程に関する基礎的な分析と、同時代の戦争報道・戦争文学に関する資料収集を継続・補完しながら、今年度は特に、戦時中の芸術と国民国家、美学と政治の関係というテーマに焦点をしぼり、プルーストの文学的戦略の独自性を研究した。2007年は『見出された時』刊行の80周年にあたる。それを記念してロンドン大学ロイヤル・ホロウェイ校で12月17-19日に開催された国際シンポジウムにおいて、本研究の成果の一部を「戦争、芸術、国民」と題し、口頭発表した。まず同時代の代表的知識人であるモーリス・パレスに着目した。プルーストは小説の最終稿と草稿で、パレスの「愛国主義的な芸術観」を批判している。そうした箇所について、パレスが戦時中『エコー・ド・パリ』紙に発表した時評記事(『大戦年代記』全14巻に収録)を調査し、批判の文脈を具体的に確定した。つづいて小説め語り手が(1)愛国心・ドイツ嫌い・ドイツ贔屓という戦時の特徴的な情念を心理学的に分析している箇所、(2)大戦という例外的な状況に美を見出す場面、(3)大戦を演劇になぞらえる比喩を詳細に分析した。それにより、プルーストにおける政治と美学の関係を「愛国心」と「ディレッタンティスム」の両義的な関係として理解することが可能になった。『見出された時』では、愛国的な一体感の偉大さを前にした感嘆が紛争状態の暴力性を非現実化する一方で、心理学的な分析と美学的な知覚が、倫理的な「異化作用」を引き起こし、無益な殺戮への批判的な視点を示唆しているのである。パリ滞在期問中は、フランス国立図書館とソルボンヌ図書館を利用しつつ、近代テクスト草稿研究所のプルースト研究会と、コレージュ・ド・フランスのA・コンパニョン教授の講義とセミナーに参加し、最新の研究動向にふれることができた。
