本研究は、組織アイデンティティを獲得し、企業行動を展開することで競争優位性を生み出すという視点に基づき、企業を分析することを目的としている。特に福祉サービス組織の利用者が質の高いサービスを受けられるように企業が優れた評判と特色あるサービスを創造する要因を明らかにする。平成16年度は有料老人ホームを運営する法人の担当者を含めた関係者から、現在の福祉サービスでの問題点や可能性について情報提供を受けた。加えて、老人ホームを経営する福祉サービスは、介護サービスや医療の現場と密接な関係にあり、病院が経営主体である事例も多く見られることが確認された。専門家からの情報提供では、本研究の目的には、研究対象を拡大し、有料老人ホームを含めた、福祉サービスを提供する組織全般を視野に入れることが適切であると判断した。また、老人ホームは居住型重視であり、必要に応じて介護サービスを利用することが主たる目的であり、入所期間は長い。一方、医療機関は疾病の治療が目的であり、慢性期や急性期といった違いはあるものの、入所期間は相対的に短い。これをうけて、医療型(治療目的)と介護型(居住目的)という2つの相対的な軸の中で組織を位置づけることが、有意義であることが明らかになった。また、医療保険ないしは介護保険でまかなわれる割合が高い(自己負担比率が低い)施設と、反対に医療保険ないしは介護保険の範囲を超えた高額の費用を負担することを求める(自己負担比率の高い)施設、の2つに大別されることも明らかとなった。以上から抽出された2軸上に各福祉サービス組織をグルーピングして位置づけした。現在、組織の特徴を明らかにするために、各グループの中で競争優位性があると認められる組織を抽出する作業を行っている。尚、理論についても、組織アイデンティティ理論についての先行研究を深めるために、他企業の事例を用いて分析の可能性を探っている。
