AMS14C age of planktonic foraminifera from core samples must be corrected for differences between the 14C age of surface water and the contemporaneous atmosphere prior to calculation of a calendar age. This is because the waters of the deep ocean are out of equilibrium with respect to the atmosphere causing marine carbon-containing material to appear older than material formed in equilibrium with the atmosphere. Reservoir ages have been calculated using paired AMS 14C and MC-ICP-MS U-Th dating of small amounts of foraminifera tests from the eastern equatorial Pacific. The results show a marked reduction in reservoir age during 50 kyrs.
