ドナー登録行動を人々がとる原因には、通常の公共財の自発供給行動のそれとは大きく異なる点がある。臓器提供は通常の公共財のように提供した財・金銭が生産関数を通して本人が利用できる財となるわけではない。ドナー登録行動のインセンティブを個人にもたらすのはある意味、純粋な社会的選好の存在もしくは何をモラルのある行動と感じるかという心理的側面が強いと考えられる。そこで本研究では特に心理的ゲーム理論(psychological game theory)を用いて戦略的な環境の中で個人の「罪の意識(sense of guilty)」や「互恵性(reciprocity)」がどのくらい生成され、かつどのくらい個人の行動に影響を与えるかを分析した。これらの心理的要因は臓器提供のドナー登録をもたらす要因として本質的である。他のプレイヤー達からモラルの低い行動をすると自分が思われている可能性が少ない場合に実際は自分がモラルの低い行動を取った場合には、その行動は自分に罪の意識を持たせることになると想定した。他のプレイヤーからどう思われているかという事から利得が発生するこの分析は通常のゲーム理論とは一線を画する分析法である。本研究ではこのような罪の意識の発生の仕方を想定した場合に各プレイヤーのモラルの低い行動をどのくらい阻止できるかを査察ゲームの枠組みで定量的に示した。他のプレイヤー達が自分にとって好都合な行動をしてきた場合、自分も他のプレイヤーにとって望ましい行動をする事で自分の効用が上昇するという互恵性が戦略的環境においてどのくらい発生し、またそれがどのくらいプレイヤー達の行動に影響を与えるかも定量的に分析をした。特徴的な結果として相手プレイヤーのモラルが低いかもしれないと想定しそれを織り込んで行動した時、自分達のモラルが低いと疑われたプレイヤー達はモラルの高い行動を全くしなくなる定理も示された。
