项目摘要

1.本年度は、神戸大学人間科学系図書館に新たに所蔵された西洋医学史関連のマイクロフィッシュ・コレクションを中心に分析・読解が進められた。すでに平成17年度の成果として指摘していた通り、16世紀は近代西欧養生論が簇生し、ラテン語ではなく母国語で刊行され始める画期であり、本コレクションの購入によって直接当時の家庭医学に関する充実した史料群に触れられたことはたいへん有意義であった。特に注目したのは以下の文献である。T.Elyot,The Castle of Health(1541)、J.Goeurot (T.Phaer), The Regiment of Lyfe(1567)。両者は四体液論に立脚したガレノス医学に依拠し、食餌・薬草に関する経験知を中心とした食養生を重視しており、なお伝統的養生観を継承するものである。しかし他方、医学に関する専門知を広く普及させ、公共体全体の健康を実現しようと企図し、英語で著されている点も重要である。伝統的な西欧養生論の知見を継授しつつも、社会全体の衛生を国家統治という新たな観点からすでに配慮されはじめている。2.さらに本研究の現代的意義を明確にすべく、現代の精神と身体の関係に注目し、伝統的心身観と比較することにした。その際、特に20世紀初頭のアメリカに展開した精神衛生運動に着目し、教育の医療化・心理主義化の起源にあった議論を明らかにした。当時すでに魂(soul)から精神(mind)へ、宗教から心理学・精神医学へと精神の分析枠組みの変遷が決定的となっていたが、このことはいかに精神を身体と関係づけるかという問題が再浮上することにもつながった。アメリカ精神衛生運動の主導者A.
