本研究の目的はスポーツ選手の喫煙が短時間最大運動及び回復期の自律神経調節能に及ぼす影響を検討することであった。喫煙習慣のある青年スポーツ選手では,1回心拍出量には特異な現象が確認できないが、筋疲労の回復が緩慢であった。青年スポーツ選手の喫煙は短時間最大運動の作業成績には影響しないが、回復期の体調が悪くなるという影響が認められた。青年期の喫煙は、交感神経の調節能よりも副交感神経の調節能への影響が大きいとの結論を得た。
