A contrastive sociolinguistic research on politeness in Japanese and German

本研究旨在通过观察调查的方法对德日两国的销售会话进行分析。本实证研究不仅考虑了实际互动中使用的语言表达，而且考虑了母语者（研究助理）的意见和他们对观察到的互动的评论。结果显示，德国人认为带有个人建议的长时间谈话是礼貌的，而日本人更喜欢简洁实用的谈话。

This study aims to analyze the sales conversation in German and Japanese on the basis of an observation survey. This empirical study considers not only linguistic expressions that were used in the actual interactions, but also opinions of the native speakers (research assistants) and their comments on the observed interaction. The result revealed the Germans regard a long conversation with personal advices as polite, while the Japanese prefer a more concise usinesslike conversation.
