项目摘要

高山寺の蔵書目録(聖教目録)は、鎌倉時代創建当時のものが残されているが、そこに記載された聖教の保存と管理の状況を現存資料と当時の記録類から検討してみると、口語資料が豊富な聖教(それらは主として華厳系の僧侶の集団により行われたもの)は早く寺外に流出・紛失してしまい、方便智院などの真言の伝授を中心とする塔頭や弟子達により目録とその聖教の管理・編成が行われていったことが判明する。初期に聖教目録の再編成に尽力したのは覚薗院第一世の義淵房霊典であることが判明したが、その後の覚薗院代々はこれ以降の聖教目録管理や、再編成にはほとんど関与していない。以後、高山寺は定型的な真言宗の事相面での伝授が活動の中心となっていく。そのため、高山寺に現存する資料には定型的な文語(口頭語の現れにくい)資料が多く残されている。
