秦漢~六朝・隋唐時代の強制移動刑のうち、遷刑・徙遷刑・流刑について、刑罰としての特徴を明らかにした。また、唐律の流刑の淵源は北朝の流刑にあるが、それは儒教経典の理念に裏づけされた刑罰であり、そのため、成立当初から刑罰理念と執行の実際との間に乖離が存在したことを明らかにした。
