本研究を通じ、戦後東アジア各地における綿業の勃興が、決して個々の孤立した地域の動きではなく、広域的かつ相互連関的な動きであったことが明らかになった。戦間期に上海とその周辺地域で活躍していた綿業経営者の一部は、戦後、香港と台湾に新たに綿業が発展する上で決定的な役割を果たした。日本からの繊維機械輸出が持った意味、また各地の当局が持っていた綿業振興という共通の政策志向なども再評価されなければならない。
