現在、団塊の世代を中心に大量の定年退職者が生まれつつある。本研究ではこれらの退職者たちがどのようにして退職後への移行という人生の転換点における危機-企業から家庭・地域ヘシフトするための「セカンド・モラトリアム」と名付けているが-を乗り越えようとしているのかを、滋賀県の企業に対するアンケート調査と、ボランティア・サークルを運営している人たちへのインタビューから明らかにしていった。
