鳥の分布調査を行い、鳥の飛来頻度に応じて和歌川河口干潟を10箇所に区分し、シギチドリ類にとってのエサ資源量(カニ類)とカニの種レベルでの寄生虫感染状況、鳥の摂食行動の観察を行った全般に鳥に最もよく食われ吸虫の寄生率も高かったケフサイソガニでは、捕食の頻度の高い場所と低い場所間で寄生率・寄生数共に違いがなかったのに対し、そこそこ食われていたヤマトオサガニでは、捕食の頻度の高い場所で寄生率・寄生数共に高かった。捕食頻度の低い場所のケフサイソガニにも多くの吸虫が寄生したことから、吸虫に宿主選好性がある、また吸虫の蔓延に必要な密度の閾値が存在する可能性がある。また、主に見られた吸虫は3種で、それらはコメツキガニのみに多数寄生する種特異性の最も高い種、複数種に寄生するもののオサガニのみに多数寄生する種特異性のやや高い種、ケフサイソガニにやや多く寄生するものの他の複数種にもかなり寄生する種特異性の比較的低い種、とそれぞれ特徴付けられた。
