アルツハイマー病脳の神経細胞変性の機序を興奮毒性の観点から免疫組織化学的手法を用いて検討した。まずGABA受容体γサブユニットのAD脳海馬における変化を検討した。その結果γサブユニットはAD病理に対して防御的に働き、γサブユニットの低下と神経細胞の変性が関連することが推察された。AD脳海馬におけるカルシウム結合蛋白(parvalbuminとcalbindin)の変化をみた研究では、個々のカルシウム結合蛋白はAD脳において異なる変化を示すこと、calbindin陽性細胞の方が、AD脳において抵抗性を示すことが示唆された。最後に、神経可塑性に関与するセロトニン1A受容体のAD海馬における変化について検討した。その結果、セロトニン1A受容体は、高度のADでも比較的よく保たれることが示唆された。
