平成19年度は現地調査をウズベキスタン共和国2回、ウクライナで1回ほど実施レた。1.ウズベキスタン共和国での現地調査(1)第1回:平成19年6月(タシケント、コーカンド)タシケント第二住宅建設コンビナートの上級技師で1960年代後半から住宅や公共施設の外壁装飾に活用されたモザイク・パネルのデザインを担当した建築家Nikolai Djarskii氏と共同で、タシケント市内に現存する作例(集合住宅、地下鉄、学校、カフェ等)23件を収集する。作例ごとに位置図、建設年代、現状をノートに記入し、Djarskii氏による解説(モチーフやテーマ、作画に関する指示、制作技術の改良や困難だった点)を記録、写真撮影を行う。また図面の下書き、図面、建設当初の記録スライド等の資料も収集。(2)第2回:平成20年2月(タシケント、サマルカンド)ウズベキスタン内にソ連邦時代に設立された建築関連組織である都市建設公団、住宅設計公団、都市計画局について、長年勤務するエンジニアにインタビューし、各組織の役割の違いや活動経緯について詳細な説明を受ける。ソ連邦時代と現在では建設計画の手法や建設内容も大きく変化している点を確認。サマルカンドではソ連邦期に建設された郊外の衛星地区(ミクロライオン)を調査対象とし、街区計画の特徴と現状を把握するため、パネル式多層階集合住宅調査(配置と平面図、外壁の壁面装飾について力ード記入と写真撮影)を行った。2.ウクライナでの現地調査平成19年9月(キエフ、ハリコフ) ウズベキスタンで1920年代後半から活躍した若手の構成主義建築家達の多くはウクライナ出身で、彼らの故郷にも数多くの優れた構成主義建築が残されている。中央アジア以外の旧ソ運邦地域で近代建築と都市がどのように建設されたのか、比較対象都市としてウクラナのキエフとハリコフを選び、近代建築の現状と改築の程度、都市における役割について視察を行った。具体的には写真記録とカードへの記入、文献収集と街の案内・保存に携わる人々へのインタビューを行う。特に1931年にキエフに首都が移転するまでウクライナ共和国の首都であったハリコフには巨大な官庁建築(工業省Gosprom,1925-28年)や文化宮殿(1927-30年)、建設労働者クラブ(1927-29年)、郵便局(1927-30年)が現存し、それら建造物は現在でも役所、文化施設、商業用店舗として十分に活用され機能している。一方、キエフでは近代化の過程で放置され荒廃が進んだウクライナ正教関連の施設(教会、修道院等)が1991年のウクライナ独立以降、華々しく修復され多くの信者を集めており、ウズベキスタンの中世ティムール期の歴史建造物と同様,ウクライナでも歴史建造物が国のシンボルとして活用されている事を確認した。
