今年度は,昨年度中に開発を開始していた「創作のプロセスを追跡するソフトウェア」であるTypeTraceの実践展開と理論構築に務め,論文や論考の執筆および長期間の一般展示やソフトウェアの無償リリースにおけるユーザの動態観察を行った。デジタル・アーカイヴの標榜する地平の先には,創作の結果のみならず,創作のプロセスを記録し,再生可能な形で共有する必要性が生じる,という段階的発展に繋がったと考えている。TypeTraceはキーボードを叩いて文章を執筆する過程を,各キー入力の粒度で時間情報と共に記録し,動画のように文章の執筆過程を再生し,他者と共有することのできるソフトウェアである。文字メディアというものは,最もリテラシーの低いモダリティであるが,同時に参加障壁も最も低い形式である。展示やソフトウェア・リリースを通して多くのユーザの執筆プロセスの採取を行ってきたが,今後とも多くのユーザのフィードバックを得ることによって,多様な発展可能性があると考えられる。プロクロニズムとは生命システム論とサイバネティクスの分野を切り開いたグレゴリー・ベイトソンが「生命体の発生と成長の歴史を表現する形態」を指した用法であるが,筆者はこの語を情報ネットワーク時代におけるデジタル・コンテンツのアーカイヴの構築と共有を行う上で不可避の,重要な概念として再定義する作業を各種メディアや学会発表で行ってきた。今後とも,文字メディアに限らず,描画や作曲といったクロス・モーダルな表現形式のプロクロニズムを介して,アート・アーカイヴの可能性を追究していきたいと考えている。
