Aiming at providing efficient solutions to the difficult problems in optical fiber communication industry, such as the diagnoses of complex fiber optic modules like erbium-doped optical amplifiers (EDFA) and optical fiber subscriber access networks, this project proposed and established the technique of "multiple optical-correlation operations" by merging the technique of "synthesis of optical coherence function" (SOCF), which is originally created by this research group, with the scheme of "wavelength sweeping averaging" developed by the head-investigator before, and by introducing the spectral apodization and adaptive carrier techniques additionally, to realize a high performance optical reflectometry with such functions in parallel as high sensitivity, high accuracy, large dynamic range, high speed, and fine spatial resolution. In experiment demonstration, a high accuracy reflection distribution of optical fiber is obtained within several seconds, which costs in general hundreds to thousand of seconds with conventional techniques. With this high-accuracy high-speed optical reflectometric system, the measurements for the reflection distribution in complex optical fiber modules and optical fiber subscriber networks are demonstrated successfully. In addition, the newly proposed and demonstrated techniques also contribute to the development of distributed and multiplexed fiber optic sensors.
