ケニア中央部農民の貧困度は,彼らが干ばつや経済的変動などのリスクに直面した際に資産・活動を代替・補完する能力に左右される。そこで,この能力の具体的表れである作物・家畜の品種選択歴および森林資源調達先の利用バランスと,彼らの生計戦略および年間純所得額との関連を分析した。そして,集落間,農村-都市間の相互依存システムが資源・活動代替能力を支える程度について考察し,また農民生計の基盤である耕地の地形変化,とくに土壌侵食・移動のメカニズムと時間スケールに地域差があることを明らかにした。
