本研究では雌雄異熟性の一種であるフレキシスタイリーの起源と進化について探るためにAlpinia nieuwenhuiziiを材料とし、複数の集団で生態的・遺伝的調査を行い、フレキシスタイリーが進化しうる環境条件等について考察を行った。フレキシスタイリーの進化には、開花の同調性と開花個体の密度、吸蜜を目的とする訪花動物の存在が重要であるという結果が得られた。
