統合失調症の病因にレトロポゾンAluが深く関与しているとの仮説に基づき、統合失調症トリオを対象に、Aluをタグとした新規変異スクリーニングを実施した結果、患者特異的な変異遺伝子が複数同定され、Aluをタグとした変異解析の有用性が示唆された。また、これらの患者特異的な遺伝子変異がトリオ共通で見られたことから、本遺伝子領域におけるAluの動態は統合失調症の直接的な病因となっている可能性が示唆された。
