平成20年度の研究成果は、経済の制度的枠組みや経済政策を評価するにあたり制度や政策の最終的な帰結だけでなく、帰結の背後に存在して実現可能であった選択機会にも固有の重要性が存在しているという認識から、選択機会の内在的価値を評価の対象に取り入れた分析的枠組みの可能性を探求した。平成20年度は具体的に、以下の研究成果を成し遂げた。選択対象が最終的に選択される帰結と帰結が選択される機会集合の組からなるとき、アロー型社会選択理論への影響を分析していた。Suzumura and Xu(2004)による先行研究に基づいて選択対象に関する人々の選択態度を導入する。帰結主義は帰結の望ましさを機会の豊さよりも相対的に重要視する一方、非帰結主義は機会の豊かさを帰結の望ましさより重要視する。本研究では、これらの選択態度はアロー型社会厚生関数の定義域を制限する要因として捉えている。本研究は、これらの定義域上でアローの不可能性定理が成立するための十分条件や、選択対象を社会厚生関数によって評価する上でどのような情報が必要とされるのかということに関する条件を導出した。これらの条件はこの分析的枠組みの可能性を見通す上できわめて明快な条件となっている。この研究成果は、研究論文としてSocial Choice and Welfare誌に掲載されており、またThe Ninth International Meeting of the Society for Social Choice and Welfareで報されている。
