本研究は、現世放棄者サードゥーの苦行実践と現代におけるその意味について、独自の共同性のあり方に着目して考察することを目的とした。本年度は、昨年度までに行った長期現地調査により得られた知見に基づき、論文執筆を行うことに費やした。苦行(tapas)とは、単に身体的なもののみに限らず、身体的、言語的、心的な諸次元を含む。実際には、輪廻からの究極的な解脱を志向するサードゥーという生の様式の全体を指す。苦行実践は徒弟制を基盤とした一種の規律化の過程として捉えることができるが、昨年度の長期調査では、主にサンスクリット学校における実地学習に取り組むことによって、サードゥーの共同体における聖典修得のあり方について学ぶことを主眼とした。一六世紀北東インドを中心に活躍した大聖者トゥルシーダースが記した聖典群は、ラーマーナンディー・サードゥーのあらゆる苦行実践を支える思想的根幹である。しかしながら、全てのサードゥーがこれら聖典を正確に理解しているという訳ではなく、その真の意味は苦行実践の習熟を通して初めて体得されるものである。急速な経済発展と軌を一にして社会的美徳が失われ始めている現代ヒンドゥー社会において、家住者社会の変貌は著しく、その影響が徐々にサードゥーの共同体にも波及してきていることは否定できない。このようななか、現代のサードゥーには、苦行実践に邁進することを通して聖典に込められたsakal mangal(全的な至福)を追求することが何より求められている。結果としては、期限内に思うような研究成果を形にすることができなかった。それは何よりも、自分自身の実践が未だ不十分な段階にとどまってしまっていることによる。なお、当初は本年度中にも文献収集を目的とした短期の現地調査を予定していたが、研究の進捗状況等を鑑み取り止めた。

This study aims at exploring the implications of modern asceticism and communality in the present world. This year, we conducted a long-term survey on the basis of knowledge and paper writing.
