项目摘要

本研究「19世紀末-20世紀前半期南アフリカのブリティッシュ・アイデンティティ」は、ヨーロッパとの連関の叙述自体を「西洋中心主義」として排除するポスト・アパルトヘイトの南アフリカ史研究を見直し、植民地支配の本質的理解に迫ろうとする。2006年度までは、「世紀転換期イギリス系入植者のアイデンティティ」を中心に研究を進めてきたが、2007年度よりは1920年代以降、アフリカーナ(オランダ系入植者、ボーア人)・ナショナリストの政権獲得に抗して登場したイギリス系のリベラル派(の歴史家)と「記憶」の関係に対象を移している。本年度はその3年目であり、(1)真実和解委員会、第2次南アフリカ戦争100周年などの現状をふまえて、記憶にかんする南アフリカ史研究の動向を更に整理し、(2)世紀転換期イギリス系入植者のアイデンティティと20世紀前半期ブリティッシュ・リベラリズムの関係について、カラード(ケープタウン周辺の先住民、解放奴隷、混血の人々)の問題をめぐって更に研究を進めた。ただし、本年度は甲南大学から新潟大学へ異動したことなど環境の変化もあって成果の公表が不十分となった。(1)、(2)については「19-20世紀転換期南アフリカのカラード」として史学研究会例会(京都大学、2010年4月17日)にて発表し、『史林』94巻1号(2011年1月)に寄稿する予定である。
