本年度も昨年と同様、収集済みの一次史料の読解と、ユカタン・マヤ、メキシコ革命などに関する先行研究の読解、そして新たな一次史料の収集・読解が主な研究内容であった。本年度は、メキシコでの史料収集・フィールドワークに加えて、イギリスでの史料収集を行なえたことが、昨年との大きな違いであり収穫であった。ロンドンの国立公文書館で収集した主な史料は、1840年代から1940年代までのベリーズの植民地行政文書、同年代のベリーズ・グアテマラ・メキシコ間の国境問題をめぐる外交文書、そしてチクレ産業に関する諸史料である。これまでの研究ではメキシコの資料のみに依拠するためメキシコからの(特にメキシコ中央からの)視点に偏ってしまうという問題があったが、イギリスの資料を見ることによって、イギリスから見たユカタン半島・反乱マヤ、ベリーズから見たユカタン半島・反乱マヤという視点を得ることができ、また、メキシコとベリーズの関係だけでなくグアテマラとの関係も19世紀の反乱マヤを理解するために重要であることに気付かされた。19世紀の反乱マヤに関する資料が多く見つかった反面、20世紀についてはあまり見つからなかったが、そのことからまた、20世紀においてはベリーズ政府と反乱マヤとの関係が19世紀ほど親密ではなかったこと、そして反乱マヤ地域の「メキシコ化」が進んでいたことがうかがい知れた。「メキシコ化」が進む20世紀前半の反乱マヤについては、メキシコ国立公文書館で収集した、とくに1930年代のキンタナロー・チクレに関する公文書から、当時のマヤ集団のチクレ産業への関わり、マヤ集団とメキシコ政府との関係の解明がさらに進んだ。
