1931年9月の満州事変の勃発から1932年3月の満州国の建国宣言まで、どのような建国工作が行われていたのかを明らかにするため、1931年11月、全満州の鉄道を掌握するため、関東軍の直轄機関として設立された東北交通委員会(後の満州国交通部)に着目し、新たな史料も加えて、その設立過程を明らかにした。即ち、設立当初から当該委員会の主導権を巡って、中国資本の鉄道だけではなく、満鉄までも管轄下に収めたい関東軍・満州青年連盟と、その動きを警戒しつつ単独で全満州の鉄道経営の実現を目指す満鉄、更には少しでも権限を確保しておきたい満州国要人たちとの間に激しい駆け引きが展開され、最終的に関東軍が譲歩することによって、満鉄は全満州の鉄道単独経営権を獲得することに成功し、満州国要人たちも委員会における権限を強化することに成功したのである。こうしたことについては、従来、満州国の建国過程において、関東軍と満鉄は互いに密接な協力関係を保ち、満州国要人たちは彼らの「言いなり」になっていたとする構図に対して再検討を促すものと思われる。また、今年度も引き続き、海外での史料調査(具体的には、中国大連市、瀋陽市、長春市)を行った。その結果、大連市(具体的には、国立大連図書館。大連市にあった日本文献資料館は現在閉鎖され、本館に移管されていた)において新史料を発見した。現在は分析中であり、本年度中には満州青年連盟が満州事変勃発前後にかけて、日本人の世論喚起にどのような役割を果たしたのかについて、研究成果を発表したいと考えている。
