前年度は、中国人女子留学生と日本人女子学生を対象に、3次元MUD内でチャットを用い、効果的な国際交流の内容について検討した。しかし、この交流は、日本語を習得した中国人留学生が日本語を使ってチャットに参加し、1回限りの交流であった。そこで、更に効果的なプログラムにするには、日本語未習得者も参加できる継続的な交流プログラムを検討する必要があると考えられる。そこで、今年度は、翻訳精度が高いといわれる日韓翻訳チャットを用い、1回限りではなく、複数回の国際交流を実施した。現在の翻訳チャットの技術を用いて、円滑なコミュニケーションができるのか、交流相手国に対する肯定的な態度を高める効果があるのかを検討することを研究の目的とした。さらに、翻訳チャットを使った継続的な国際交流を行う際、どのような接触方法が偏見低減効果を高めるのか検討するために、交流相手の人数に着目した。いつも同じ交流相手と接する場合と比較し、交流ごとに相手が異なる場合、様々なタイプの人とコミュニケーションをするので、集団内の多様性を知覚し、交流相手のみならず相手国民全体に対する好意が高まることが期待される。日本人女子学生と、韓国人留学生の実験協力者が3次元MUD上で翻訳チャットによる国際交流に参加した。交流は数日ごとに、計4回実施された。交流参加前と、各交流に参加した直後に、韓国国民に対する日本人参加者の態度を測定した。コミュニケーションは、予め実験者が用意した複数の質問のリストから、参加者が相手に聞きたい質問を選んで、互いに質問しあう形式であった。その結果、誤訳がみられるものの、現在の翻訳チャットの技術でも、概ね意思疎通ができること、コミュニケーションに参加しなかった統制群の参加者や、いつも同じ相手と接した参加者よりも、異なる相手と接する参加者の方が交流相手国民に対する肯定的な態度を高めることが示唆された。
