Archaeological studies in the formation of medieval Ainu culture : From the perspective on the history of Northeast Asia

本研究旨在用考古学的方法考察日本北部的社会变迁，特别是中世纪阿伊努人文化的形成。本研究调查了鄂霍次克文化的考古资料，并在北海道东部发掘了一处温州文化聚落遗址。从这次调查中，我们看到了鄂霍次克文化在这一地区的终结和萨满文化在该地区的传播和终结的过程，也就是说，我们看到了中世纪阿伊努人文化形成过程中的社会变迁过程。

This study is intended as an investigation of social changes of the northern part of Japan, Especially the formation of medieval Ainu culture, by the methods of archaeology. In this study we investigated archaeological materials of Okhotsk culture and excavated a settlement site of Satsumon culture in the eastern part of Hokkaido. From this survey we have seen the process of ending of Okhotsk culture and spreading and ending of Satsumon culture in this area, that is to say that we have seen the process of social change in the formation of medieval Ainu culture.
