项目摘要

1830年代に行われた英国国会議事堂の設計競技では、ゴシック様式ないしはエリザベス朝様式を使用することが設計条件として示されていた。それから約30年を経て開催されたロンドン王立裁判所の指名設計競技では、様式上の規定が設けられなかったにもかかわらず、すべての応募案においてゴシック様式が採用されていた。本研究では、盛期ヴィクトリア朝社会において、ゴシック様式が大都市の中心部に位置する大規模公共建築に適した建築様式として認知されるに至った事実に着目し、19世紀英国のゴシック・リヴァイヴァルを「国民的・市民的様式」として解釈した。

In the 1830s, the design competition of the British Parliament Hall was held in the same way as that of the British Parliament. For about 30 years, the court has been promoting the development of the name design competition, and the rules on the design of the name design competition have been set up. This study explores the social and civic aspects of large-scale public buildings in metropolitan areas in their heyday.
