This research has produced the following results of the semiotic interpretation in aging : (1) the symbolic aspect of interpretation related to linguistic elements tends to degenerate first, then the indexical aspect related to the frequency of semiotic usage does, and the iconic aspect related to feelings tends to be retained best. (2) Present oriented interpretation inherently related with iconicity is salient in aging. (3) The aging Japanese are more group-oriented than the aging Western people in their everyday ways of thinking.
