本研究は, 東かがわ市を中心に展開する手袋産業を事例とし, 地方地場産業の生存戦略と海外展開の特徴を地理学的観点から解明することを目的とした. その結果, 事例企業群は, 長年地場で培ってきた商品生産の知識と技術を生かして地域ブランドを形成する一方, 早くから海外に展開し, 現在中国に主たる生産拠点を, 欧米に仕入販売拠点を設置して, 日本(地場)との間にグローバルなネットワークを構築していること, 地場では専門的知識技術伝承プログラムを立ち上げ, 頭脳としての地場の維持に努めていることが明らかになった
