本研究は、政治学研究上の空白となっているハプスブルク君主国とその継承諸国の政治発展をヨーロッパ全体の政治発展の中に位置づけることに寄与する目的をもって始めたものである。研究期間中には研究文献・同時代文献・史資料の収集とその分析をすすめ、その成果の一部として、ハプスブルク君主国のオーストリア側における政治発展を概観した研究(雑誌論文)、東中欧・南東欧地域における政治発展の見取り図を含む論文(近刊の共同研究論文集に所収の予定)、1920年代の当該地域におけるデモクラシーの崩壊事例の研究などをまとめた。
