自閉症など広汎性発達障害(PDD)児・者に適切な療育・福祉サービスを提供するには、個別的な支援ニーズ評価の方法が確立される必要がある。そこで、ある入所施設における観察調査と、全国の自閉症専門施設を対象とする郵送調査を実施した結果、既存の定型的な評価尺度では、PDD固有の障害特性を反映した評価は困難であることが示された。また現実の福祉場面では、観察による情報に基づく合議により障害評価・ニーズ判定を行っており、情報収集と判定のプロセスをシステム化することが有効と考えられた。
