カビに, アトピー性皮膚炎を悪化させる作用があるか動物実験を行って調べた. 台所や風呂場に生えているススカビの抽出物を予め気道に注入したマウスでは, カビを気道に注入していないマウスよりも症状が悪化する傾向がみられた. またアトピー性皮膚炎の炎症部に, ススカビの抽出物を塗ったところ,著しく症状が悪化した. 以上の実験結果より, 炎症部位にカビが接触したり,予めカビを吸入した状態であったりすると, アトピー性皮膚炎が悪化する可能性が示唆された.
