平成17年10月1日から平成19年9月30日までに医療観察法入院処遇の決定をうけ、当院に入院した53名を対象として基本情報として年齢、性別、主診断、副診断、対象行為種別、被害者、責任能力、遺伝負因過去の治療歴、過去の犯罪歴、教育歴、婚姻歴、職歴、治療中断、平均在院日数について個人情報を削除したうえで収集した。その結果、対象者は男性が女性の約三倍で年齢は20代から70代までと多彩であった。種診断は統合失調症が最も多いが精神遅滞、発達障害、人格障害などの合併例も認められた。対象行為は殺人、傷害、放火が多く9割以上の例で心身喪失あるいは心身耗弱と判断され約9割で不起訴となっていた。遺伝負因は25%の割合で認められ、過去の犯罪歴も25%の割合で認められた。教育歴は平均して12.2±2.5年、婚姻歴ありは32%だった。職歴については90%以上で職歴があるが対象行為時には15%程度しか就職していなかった。約90%で治療歴があるものの約65%で治療中断しており、対象行為時には約50%で治療を中断していた。平均在院日数は327±12日であった。多くの対象者が治療を受けている一方で中断率も高く、治療中断によって職を失うなどの社会的適応が悪化しており医療の担保の重要性を示唆する結果であった。また、発達障害や精神遅滞などが合併していることにより難治例となり入院期間が伸びている傾向が認められた。
