本研究は,集団レベルで働く進化と個体レベルで働く学習という2つの適応メカニズム間の相互作用に関し,遺伝子・表現型空間の各点に対応する適応度の山として描かれる適応度地形の特性に注目してそのダイナミクスを明らかにすることを目的とし,人工生命モデルに基づく解析と工学的応用への検討を行った.その結果,凸凹した複雑な適応度地形や,コミュニケーション能力や言語能力の進化,ニッチ構築形質の進化など,個体間の相互作用に依存する動的環境において,学習が進化に大きな影響を果たしうることが示された.
