都市部多世代交流型デイプログラムにおける初期の世代間交流の形成過程は、子どもと高齢者が互いに知り合い、高齢者が子どもを迎え入れ、プログラムを通じて感じたことの表現や主張などを通して、会の外で出会ったときに子どもから声をかけるなど関係性の深まりが見られた。世代間交流を促進する支援は、双方の世代の参加者の交流を意図したプログラム準備や運営を行いながら、参加者主体となるような配慮やその場の一体感や安心感がもてるような配慮を行い、その中で自然な世代間交流がなされるような意図的な支援が行われていた。また、参加高齢者一人一人の体調を気遣い、その人にあったフォローをするよう、心がけていた。他の世代間交流施設の支援も含めて共通する内容として、人と人が出会う場所の準備に時間をかけ、交流の核となる世代を定めること、参加者の主体性を重んじることなどがあげられた。
