腫瘍間質組織の遺伝子発現プロファイルを網羅的に解析した結果、EGF、TGF-beta、IL-1betaがヒト口腔扁平上皮癌組織の腫瘍間質組織において著明に発現亢進していることが確認できた。これらの遺伝子の内、TGF-betaについてのタンパク発現をWestern blotにて解析したところ、多くのサンプルで発現の亢進が認められた。以上のことより、口腔癌の発症に周囲間質組織のTGF-betaの発現亢進が関与している可能性が示唆された。
