项目摘要

本年度は二つの課題について研究を行った。第1の研究課題は、タイにおいて男性よりも女性の方がより教育を受けるのかである。この理由を明らかにするために、労働市場における教育の収益と家計の就学選択の二つの側面に注目して分析を行った。その結果、教育の限界収益は後期中等教育以上の教育水準において女性が男性を有意に上回っており、しかも、若い世代になるにつれ、世代に特有の男女の賃金格差が縮小する傾向が見られた。他方、家計の就学選択では、家計が若い労働者の労働市場における教育の収益に敏感に反応して、男女の高等教育就学を行っていることが分かった。これらの結果から、家計が合理的な教育投資行動を行った結果、アジアの国としては珍しく、女性の教育水準が男性を上回る様になったと言える。第2研究課題では、2002年に、タイで導入された大規模な医療保障制度(30バーツ医療制度)が家計の貯蓄行動に与えた影響について分析を行った。2002年以前は、タイのインフォーマルセクタの全ての家計に対して十分に機能する医療保障制度は存在せず、さらに医療保障を受けていない家計は医療費を全て自己負担しなければならなかった。この様な、医療費の支払いのリスクに対処するために医療保障を受けていなかった家計は予備的な貯蓄を行っていた可能性がある。分析の結果、30バーツ医療制度対象家計の貯蓄行動は変化していないことが明らかになった。この結果は、医療保障の対象となった多くの家計が、予測できない医療支出に対して予備的な貯蓄を行っていなかったことを示唆しており、これらの家計は不意の病気に対して脆弱であった可能性があることが分かった。
