1930年代のソヴィエト絵画の様式、社会主義リアリズムとの関連という観点から、スターリン政権下の芸術政策において写真が果たした役割を明らかにすることが研究の全体的な目的である。本年度は昨年度に引き続き、1930年代に発達したフォト・オーチェルク(写真エッセイ)の調査および当時の写真に関する議論に関して研究を行った。昨年度モスクワに滞在し、主に国立レーニン図書館において、「与えよ」「建設のソ連邦」「三十日」などのグラフ雑誌、「ソヴィエト写真」「プロレタリア写真」などの写真雑誌、そして写真を用いたパンフレットや写真アルバムなどの調査を行ったが、本年度はこれらの資料の分析と考察を行い、研究成果の一部をニューヨーク大学との協同のもとに行われた東京大学GCOE「共生のための国際哲学教育研究センター」主催Graduate Student Conferenceにおける口頭発表、および論文「社会主義の理想は日常生活の中に-ソヴィエトにおけるフォト・オーチェルクの発展」(『日本スラヴ人文学会スラヴィアーナ』)として発表した。さらに本年度の後半は、フォト・オーチェルクを映画や文学、ジャーナリズムなどのジャンルを含むソヴィエトのドキュメンタリー運動という幅広い文脈に位置づけるための研究を行った。その成果は口頭発表「ソヴィエトにおけるアーカイヴ・モメント-ファクトの文学、ヴェルトフ、フォト・エッセイ」において披露され、論文としてフランスの学術誌『1895』および『日本ロシア文学会ロシア語ロシア文学研究』への投稿を行った。ソヴィエトのフォト・エッセイはその芸術性の高さをしばしば指摘されてきたが、本格的な研究は世界的に見ても多くはない。本研究は写真のみならずエディトリアル・デザインやキャプション、シナリオを含めてフォト・エッセイを詳細に分析し、プロパガンダ計のメディアとしての特色を明らかするものである。それと同時に、スターリンの芸術政策やドキュメンタリー運動という文化的な背景、および五ヵ年計画という政治的・社会的背景との関連性をも明らかにした。
