観察者から周囲にあるものまでの距離や方向といった空間情報は、観察者が移動したり向きを変えたりすることに伴い自動的に更新される(空間情報の更新)。この空間情報の更新が、観察者を中心とする自己中心座標系と観察者を含めた枠組みである環境中心座標系どちらの空間座標系に対して生じるのかを検討することを目的とした。本年度は、近年この分野において行われている実験パラダイムを用いた。具体的には観察者に複数の標的の位置を指示させ、標的数を変数として操作するというものであった。また、先行研究では観察者が記銘する段階で標的数を操作して全ての標的を指示させる手続きをとっていたが、本研究では観察者に指示させる段階で標的数を操作することにより記銘時の負荷を均一にするように手続きを工夫した。実験の方法は、まず観察者に環状に配置した標的の位置を記銘してもらい、その後にパーソナルコンピュータ上で標的の位置を判断させる実験課題を実施するものであった。ただし、実験において記銘する段階における標的の配置や実験の教示等について改善の必要かおるとの指摘を受けた。そのため、改善策としてパーソナルコンピュータ上に標的を呈示し、かつ配置を観察者ごとにランダムにすることで配置順の影響を相殺することが考えられた。今後は、観察者が移動する場合とその場で向きを変える場合を比較検討することで、より日常生活に即した空間情報の更新のメカニズムが解明されることが期待される。
