A comparative study on the views on Japanese art history in Japan, the UK, and USA through research on the handling of Yamato-e

本研究的主要成果如下：(1)针对英国和美国收藏的明治时期日本美术作品，考察了收藏的作品及其分类方式。此外，我们还检查了有关日本绘画史的书籍（gashi）和绘画理论的著作（garon），以及研究人员和收藏家的收藏。因此，我们了解到，在英国，日本的艺术作品主要是根据分类来收集的，并试图在此基础上系统地形成日本艺术史。另一方面，我们了解到，在美国，每个收藏家都是根据自己的意识选择日本艺术作品的。(2)基于上文“(1)”的研究成果，我们以大和为中心举办了国际研讨会和专题讨论会，观察到明治时期建立的日本美术史研究是在日本、英国和美国对日本美术史观点的相互影响下发展起来的。

The main achievements of this study are as follows :(1) With regard to Japanese art works collected in the UK and USA during the Meiji period, we checked the collected works and the way they were classified. Further, we checked the collections of books on the history of painting in Japan (gashi) and writings on painting theory (garon), as well as collections owned by researchers and collectors. As the result, we learned that, in the UK, Japanese art works were mainly collected according to taxonomy and an attempt to systematically form the Japanese art history was made based on it. On the other hand, we learned that, in the USA, each collector selected Japanese art works according to his/her conscious decision.(2) Based on the research findings described above in "(1)", we held international workshops and symposiums centered on Yamato-e and observed there that the study of Japanese art history established in Meiji period developed through mutual influences on the views on Japanese art history in Japan, the UK, and USA.
