Development of a DNA marker for detecting tolerance to cold-induced seed coat discoloration in soybean

在黄大豆中，当植物开花开始后暴露于低温时，种皮发生变色，这种现象称为冷诱导变色（cold-induced discoloration，简称CD）。CD降低了黄大豆的商业价值，因此需要DNA标记来创造CD抗性品种。然而，人们甚至不知道低温如何导致种皮变色。本研究旨在探讨CD的发生和耐受机制。在此基础上，我们开发了一种能有效筛选耐CD植物的DNA标记。

In yellow soybean, seed coat discoloration occurs when plants are exposed to low temperature after the onset of flowering, a phenomenon named cold-induced discoloration abbreviated as CD. CD reduces the commercial value of yellow soybean, and therefore DNA markers are required tocreate CD-tolerant cultivars. However, it was not even known how low temperature causes discoloration in the seed coat. In this study, we investigated the occurrence and tolerance mechanisms of CD. Furthermore, based on the findings, we developed a DNA marker being effective in selecting the CD-tolerant plants.
