Examination of the historical and social formation of model images of the common people' s modern interior space, and of the impact of the English Garden Suburb ideology

This study examines how the social conditions, contemporary architectural design ideas, and social ideas; criticisms on the modern capitalizations from the home-land ideology and socialism, feminism ideals about the women's human right and family life, and the political intentions in the movement of frugal rationalization of people's lifestyle, were represented in the ideas and designs of people's small scale houses of English Garden Suburb movement, and how these representational mechanisms were transmitted in the modernization of Japanese house designs until the World War II. Especially, it analyses how these ideas were unified with those of German and American modern lifestyle and space, and how the ideas of "Thinking house designs from the interior" were developed in Japan. Based on above examinations of the representations of lifestyle and social factors in the interior of modern Japanese domestic space, the author presented plural numbers of papers at international conferences.
