Although the tissue stem cells of rat airway epithelium (basal cells) could be isolated by using type I collagen as culture substratum in vitro, they were not subcultured on type I collagen or any other extracellular matrices. In conclusion, the culture system of the tissue stem cells of airway epithelium in vitro was not established in this study.
