Oral malodor is caused mainly by volatile sulfur compounds (VSC). It is well known that a tongue coating (TC) is one of the major sources of VSC. Therefore, it is important to reduce TC for preventing bad breath. The purpose of this study was to measure VSC, amount of TC and volumes of saliva flow that is relevant to bad breath after taking the herbal medicine. As a result, VSC and TC were declined and volume of saliva flow was increased for each subject after 8 weeks taking; however, there were no statistical significances.

口腔恶臭主要由挥发性硫化合物（VSC）引起。众所周知，舌苔是VSC的主要来源之一。因此，降低TC对于预防口臭非常重要。这项研究的目的是测量VSC，TC的量和唾液流量的体积，这与服用草药后的口臭有关。结果，服用8周后，每名受试者的VSC和TC下降，唾液流量增加，但无统计学意义。
