短音の始まりによって示された隣接する二つの時間間隔を体系的に変化させたときに、それぞれの時間間隔および、時間パターン全体が、どのように知覚されるかについて、実験および過去のデータの再分析を行った。特に、二つの時間間隔が等しいと感ぜられる「1:1カテゴリー」の存在について、事象関連電位のデータを再分析し、対照のために設けていた異同判断を求めない条件においてもその存在する可能性が高いことを見出した。この際に、各電極から得られる電位変化のあいだの相関をそのまま用いて、さまざまな応答パターンのあいだの相対距離を求められること、またそのような分析を因子分析によって縮約したデータに対しても行いうることが判ったので、異なる感覚における時間知覚の共通点、相違点を脳科学の手法によって調べるための道筋をつけることができた。隣接する時間間隔t1、t2のうち、t1を80～200msとしたとき、t2=t1+80msとするとt2に過小評価が生ずるが(時間縮小錯覚)、t2をさらに長くすると、t2が安定して過大評価されることが解った。これは、一種の対比現象であると考えられ、音声、音楽の知覚を理解する上で重要である。時間間隔を区切る音刺激の時間長が、時間パターンの知覚にどのような影響を与えるかについて、本計画初年度に得た実験データの分析を進めた。ある時間間隔が定常的な刺激で埋めつくされた「充実時間」は、ごく短い刺激で区切られた「空虚時間」に比べて過大評価されることが知られているが、二十名を超える実験参加者のデータを得ることにより、100ミリ秒程度のごく短い時間については、この傾向を示す者と示さない者とがはっきりと分かれることが判った。このことに関して視覚刺激を用いて分析することが可能になった。
