Semantic Function of Predicational Adjunction in the Event Structure

Throughout this study from the viewpoint of event semantics, I hypothesized that the incremental process was cognitively productive enough for some derivational English family constructions to emerge, such as resultatives, event-type shifting phenomena, intransitive motion constructions, dative alternations, and progressive achievements, where transitivity and causation of the sentence were not assigned only by the semantic property of the main verb, nor that of the construction, but were formulated through the incremental process of subevents.Next, I showed the semantic function of result-denoting constituents and the validity of the causal relation realized by the result heads of those constructions, and concluded that the resultative predicate as an event argument of the BECOME event should incrementally measure the activity the verb expressed, and such quantizing function tended to give derivationally the cause-effect relationship to the verbal subevent and the constructional one, which implied causation in the semantic interpretation.
