In developing countries, informal socio-cultural networks as well as business conglomerates are recognized to complement the formal economic system. We estimated the influence of these informal factors on business activities of Asian companies by using the micro level data. Our estimation results suggested that informal networks functioned as substitutes for formal system when legal and economic system was underdeveloped. However, as the formal system was modernized and strengthened, the influence of the socio-cultural elements on business operations of companies weakened.

在发展中国家，非正规社会文化网络以及商业集团被认为是对正规经济体系的补充。我们利用微观层面的数据估计了这些非正式因素对亚洲企业经营活动的影响。我们的估计结果表明，当法律的和经济制度不发达时，非正式网络起着替代正式制度的作用。然而，随着正式制度的现代化和加强，社会文化因素对公司业务的影响减弱。
