This study aimed to see whether human hematopoietic cells harboring these genetic abnormalities cause AML in immunodeficient mice. When FLT3-ITD as a class I mutation and PML-RARA mutant as a class II mutation were applied, leukemia occurred regardless of co-transduction of FLT3-ITD. The leukemia recapitulated human acute promyelocytic leukemia phenotypically and genetically, suggesting this is a good in vivo model for analyzing APL pathogenesis.
